There are hundreds of miles of gravel forest roads in the Hayward Area offering awesome views of forests, lakes, streams and bogs. Take the family to view fall colors or for a peaceful and relaxing bike ride down quiet backcountry roads. Wildlife viewing opportunities include whitetail deer, bald eagles, black bear, timber wolves, elk, otters, loons and beavers. There are also many wetland areas that are excellent for bird watching.

With 55,000 acres of lakes the area provides endless boating and fishing opportunities. Several large deep and clear lakes provide great water skiing, sailing, wake boarding and cruising. Ice fishing is also great during the winter and many of our homes sit within viewing distance of rock bars and weedlines. The Namekagon River, White River, Big Brook and other area streams hold brown and brook trout.

Enjoy the many paved country roads for road cycling or hit the hundreds of miles of CAMBA trails available for mountain biking, hiking, trail running. We are active members of CAMBA and are always working to improve and expand these trails. Area mountain bike races include The Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival, Mt. Borah Epic, Chequamegon 100, Fat Bike Birkie and Seeley Lions Pre-fat. Fat Biking on groomed snow trails has also become very popular in the area and rentals and trail info may be found at New Moon Bike & Ski.

The Hayward area also offers world class cross country skiing on the American Birkebeiner, Hatchery Creek, North End, Hospital and Telemark trails. This area is also very popular for snowmobile and ATV riding on the huge trail network criss-crossing the areas forests and lakes. We are proud members of the Sawyer County Snowmobile and ATV Alliance and the NW Relic Riders Club. Nearly 70% of the land in this area is open to the public with Sawyer/Bayfield County Forest, State Forest and the Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest. Some of the country’s best ruffled grouse hunting is within a short drive of many of our properties. What is better than using a lake cabin for that family deer hunt and maybe a little walleye fishing too? Waterfowl hunting abounds on area lakes, wetlands, forest ponds and rivers.
